Oil prices have surged in recent trading sessions due to escalating global tensions affecting oil supplies.
Oil Prices Rise
In the latest market activity, Brent crude futures increased by $1.35, or 2.18%, to settle at $63.34 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude rose by $1.36, or 2.35%, to $59.12. The two benchmark crudes jumped more than 3% after two days of declines, with Brent crude gaining about 4% over the week and West Texas Intermediate advancing by around 3%.
Crude Surge
Analysts have highlighted growing concerns over potential disruptions, with Phil Flynn noting that the uprising in Iran is keeping the market on edge. Oli Hansen added that escalating protests in Iran are raising fears of supply interruptions. Additionally, a survey revealed that OPEC pumped 28.40 million barrels per day last month, down 100,000 barrels from November, largely due to declines in Iran and Venezuela. The worsening conflict between Russia and Ukraine has further amplified supply worries. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has called for full U.S. access to Venezuela’s oil sector following the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro, with officials indicating that Washington will control Venezuelan oil sales and revenues indefinitely.
